COIRE MHIC NOBAILL, 7 OCTOBER 2018

10.09.2018 by Nicola Jackson //

After some dry runs near the base, we rigged up a Tyrolean system at Coire Mhic Nobaill and practised raising and lowering a stretcher above the gorge. A quick tour of the new base, which is almost finished, completed a full day for the team.

MISSING PERSON, APPLECROSS, July 2012

10.05.2012 by Nicola Jackson //

Early in July 2012, a young man went missing. He had last been seen in the car park at the top of the Bealach na Ba. An intensive search over the next few was unsuccessful. Then towards the end of September, a clue. A Stalker found a shoe in Coire na Ba that was recognised as the missing person’s. With this clue his remains were soon located by Team members in the gully on the uphill side of the Blue Pillar.

SPLASH! WATER AWARENESS TRAININGThe team took the opportunity of swollen rivers after Storm Amy to do our annual water awareness training on the Balgy River. While we're not currently set up as a full Swiftwater Rescue Team (although watch this space!), there's no shortage of water hazards in our patch to be aware of during a rescue. From throwline techniques to problem solving how to get a team across a raging burn, it's critical to understand what we can and can't do safely as a team around water, and to build the confidence in knowing how to deal with a situation where one of the team might accidentally enter the water during a rescue. And for the avoidance of doubt - if there's an option to avoid entering moving water when you're in the mountains, it's usually best to take it! @scottishmountainrescue#mountainrescue#nc500#swiftwaterrescue ... Torridon Mountain Rescue Team
Somehow it's been a week since we provided a mountain safety team to the all new @thebaeventseries event! The Bà is an epic mountain running journey from Kinlochewe to Coulags, before cycling over the Bealach na Bà, around the Applecross peninsula, through Glen Torridon and back to Kinlochewe - the route has it all. Our team were located at key points across the higher parts of the route to provide medical and rescue cover if required. Fortunately everyone got around the run unscathed, but we did a few minor bits of patching up road rash from competitors who'd maybe tried to push it all little far on the long descent down to Applecross...We were also well represented in the competitors, with Sarah, Karen, Ali and James getting stuck in - unfortunately the boys were taking it too seriously for us to get a photo or have a hug...#thebà #nc500 #bealachnabà #rootedScottish Mountain Rescue ... SHOW US A MORE PHOTOGENIC TRAINING SPOTIs there a more beautiful spot to train for a technical stretcher lower? We're not sure, but let us know if you think you know a better place!Sunday's training saw the team head to the crags above @thetorridon hotel to practice rigging anchors, play stretcher attendant, and bring together multiple techniques into a full rescue scenario. This has been brought sharply into focus after a recent call outs, including on the Bealach na Bà, which highlighted the importance of being able to effect a rescue on terrain like this safely and efficiently. Our team is made up entirely of volunteers who are on call 365 days a year to help those in need in the mountains. We rely almost entirely on public donations to operate. Please consider donating at the link in our bio.@scottishmountainrescue #Torridon #nc500 ... See MoreSee Less
