WHEN WINTER ARRIVED!January team training coincided with some of the most snow seen down to the village for several years. Once we had dug out the car park and the front door of the base, we headed through beautiful snowy pinewoods to the lower slopes of Beinn Damh to practice a range of winter skills. We explored avalanche hazard and avoidance, transceiver use and building/testing snow anchors. Can you count how many team members we managed to support with a large snow bollard on questionable snow?!Our patch is currently in full winter condition, with the associated potential hazards that come with that. WHAT A NIGHT! (sound ON!)A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the community hall on New Year's day despite winter arriving as the doors opened! 'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, WHEN... CALLOUT!On Christmas Eve at around 5pm, the team was called out to assist with a lost walker west of Beinn Alligin. With an initial team deployed and a larger search team on standby, we located the walker and guided them back to safety — not returning to base until midnight.A special shoutout to Deputy Leader Paul, who, in addition to leading the operation, was celebrating his birthday. 🎉 While most were enjoying the festivities, Paul spent the evening coordinating the call and even had a birthday curry at base (and a *non alcoholic* cold beverage)! A reminder to make good decisions in the hills over the festive period, carry the kit you need to stay safe, and crucially know how to use it - especially when it comes to navigation.Our team is almost entirely reliant on public donations to operate.
